Cutting down the ELM tree Well I went down to that frozen ground, Swept the dirt off my sullen frown, Took a knife and carved your name in sin, To feel the rage that’s been buried within. In a forest of thieves, Where the ivy weaves, It’s me just me Cutting down the ELM tree In a forest of thieves, Where your eyes could deceive, It’s me just me Cutting down the ELM tree This desire, it’s been burning too long, So time to put it out and move along, And like the night, you’ll fade like a ghost, Lord knows you’ve haunted me worst than most In a forest of thieves, Where the ivy weaves, It’s me just me Cutting down the ELM tree In a forest of thieves, Where your eyes would deceive, It’s me just me Cutting down the ELM tree I sat and called for the roots to regrow, But time had passed and I guess I didn’t know, That when it’s dead, it’s dead and there’s nothing to be said Just all the lies that go living in your head In a forest of thieves, Where the ivy weaves, It’s me just me Cutting down the ELM tree In a forest of thieves, Where your eyes don’t deceive, It’s me just me Who wants to be free

Oatcakes and Smiles In a pottery town where the sun doesn’t rise, But takes its cue from the clouds in the sky, And hangs like a glaze that covers the soil, Reminds you of days of love and toil. For Oatcakes and smiles, I’d give tonight, To rest by your side, In the warmth of your eyes, To talk in stories, And always feel fine. An old England that fell out of sight, Because it couldn’t keep up with these modern delights, So it lay by the wayside and was put to bed, Like those memories that shone in your head For Oatcakes and smiles, I’d give tonight, To rest by your side, In the warmth of your eyes, Talk in stories, And always feel fine. What I’d give for your Catholic soul, I know it’s red, red and gold. Every bird, every bird that sings out, For you and the budding spring Like sunshine in style, Like days gone by, Like every night

The Way we did Give me the sea, give me green hills, That rush over me, Give me the night, give me high dreams, Of what I could be Let me live, The way we did Give me love and fireworks, Over any cheap thrill, Give me grace and silence, To last out the chill Let me live, The way we did Give me the sea, give me green hills, That rush over me, Give me the night and high dreams, That I can fulfill These bars on the window, Will not keep me still, These bars on the window, Will not keep me still

Mini Days 04:03
Mini Days She said I’m drinking San Miguel, In that evening smile, all's well, Thinking of those bottleneck blues And as the early summer sun, Remembers the times, the things we’ve done, we're Drinking to those bottleneck blues Well Kaya in the morning sun, Reggae til my evenings come, It was always the way, In those red love mini days She said I’m listening to the waves, As if I’m falling for days, Sinking deep in those bottleneck blues You know we used to drive for miles, Open roads and fleeting smiles, Listening to the bottleneck blues Well Kaya in the morning sun, Reggae til my evenings come, It was always the way, In those red love Mini days I love those Mini days I always kept a picture close to me, Not of you, but yes of she, Lying like those bottleneck blues Your Mini days, your bottleneck blues Ferrari red, sports exhaust, 1.3, let’s make some noise, Alloy wheels high on the side, Gonna make you slide, Tonbridge style L627 EOC L627 EOC Nobody, anybody, no one Could love you like me Those Mini days and those bottleneck blues

about

The result of a snowed in 2 weeks in December, this EP was recorded in a barn in Kent with whatever was to hand, bottles, drills and guitars.
It is both a record of heartbreak and loss as well as a homage to an England of old and times past.
