lyrics

Uncle Tommy

Uncle Tommy marched through the streets of a northern town,
Preaching words of faith and allegiance to the crown
As simple a man that’s ever walked these parts,
Not troubled by desires or matters of the heart

He said I don’t care for riches or houses made of stone,
You can keep your wild ideas, it’s where I’m free to roam.
So sell it to them all,
For the Ballymoney sky,
I’ll be fighting on til the day I die

Uncle Tommy sat in a chair by the door
Listening to the muffled tones and creaking of the floorboards,
A clock that ticked out time,
Like the days that passed him by
All that is lost in the blinking of an eye

He said I don’t care for riches or houses made of stone,
You can keep your wild ideas, it’s where I’m free to roam.
So sell it to them all,
For the Ballymoney sky,
I’ll be fighting on til the day I die

A box full of letters
A poem full of scorn,
A clock full of memories,
And a life barely worn
